PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of a prior art printer that although printing can be stopped at an accurate position when the sheet end detection setting by a user is 'page head', actual print position is inaccurate due to erroneous function or fixing error of a sheet sensor when the setting is 'sheet end'. SOLUTION: A prior art printer is provided with a function for transmitting the information of a page length setting means to a sheet end detection means. Accuracy of print stop position due to sheet end is enhanced by altering the sheet end detection means automatically to 'page head' upon receiving a page length setting command from a host unit.
