Strips of stainless steel is manufactured by cold rolling in a mill line, which comprises in the initial part of the line two cold rolling mills in series; an annealing furnace; a pickling section(s); and in the terminating part of the line another cold rolling mill. Manufacture of strips of stainless steel comprises cold rolling of the strip in a rolling mill line (10). First the strip are cold rolled in the initial cold rolling mills (11-13) so that its thickness is reduced to 10-75%, then it is annealed, pickled, and again cold rolled to further reduce its thickness to 2-20%. The strip is then fed consecutively for at least three times in the same direction through the same initial cold rolling mills to reduce the thickness to 30-75% before the strip is again annealed and pickled. The rolling mill line comprises in the initial part of the line two cold rolling mills in series; an annealing furnace (18); a pickling section(s) (26, 27); and in the terminating part a cold rolling mill (32) so the cast and/or hot rolled strip, which is dark colored by oxides remains on the surfaces of the strip. An Independent claim is also included for a rolling mill line for cold rolling stainless steel strips. |
