PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating apparatus in which very hard particles are not separated and sedimented, the ratio of alumina particles in a coating film is stabilized when a coating layer in which the very high hard particles are incorporated is obtained and a doctor knife, roll and the like is not worn. SOLUTION: In the coating apparatus having a coating liquid tank 3 for storing a coating liquid containing the particles, a circular cross-sectional coating roll 1 a part of which is dipped in the coating liquid in the coating liquid tank 3 and the doctor knife 2 for scraping the coating liquid on the surface of the coating roll 1 and for transferring and applying the coating liquid on the surface of the coating roll 1 to a material to be coated in the carrying process for a material to be coated, the shape of the inside surface of the coating liquid tank 3 is formed to be along the outer circumference of the coating roll 1 and to fluidize the coating liquid in the coating liquid tank 3 with the rotation of the coating roll 1.
