The skewer (14) is rested on top of spacer parts (12, 13, 22, 23) inside a press region in a press body (1), which can be filled with meat paste. A press plate is used to compress the paste around the skewer inside the press region. A device for adding a paste around an elongated support, e.g. for making shish kebabs, comprises a press body with an elongated base (6, 7), two opposing upright length walls (3, 5) connected to the base and spacer parts for holding the support above the base between the length walls. A press plate is designed to compress the paste inside the press body when it is placed with its lower side against the upper sides (24, 25) of the press body length walls. An Independent claim is also included for a method for operating the device.
