PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable torque-up in the case of high speed rotation and improvement in efficiency in the case of low speed rotation, to miniaturize a motor and to save energy by enabling constant torque control by changing the characteristics of torque/rotating speed of the motor in a motor driving device for a washing machine by driving the motor by an inverter circuit. SOLUTION: The DC power of a rectifier circuit 2 connected to an AC power source 1 is converted into AC power by an inverter circuit 3 and applied to a motor 4, and a stirring blade or a spinning tub is driven by the motor 4. A rotor position detecting means 4a detects the rotor position of the motor 4, a current detecting means 5 detects a motor current, and a control means 6 controls the inverter circuit 3. The control means 6 separates the motor current into a current component corresponding to magnetic flux and a current component corresponding to the torque and respectively controls the current component corresponding to the magnetic flux and the current component corresponding to the torque correspondingly to the control process of the motor 4.
