PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a needle swinging device for a sewing machine, which suppresses vibration or noise during sewing, exactly forms stitches and can be miniaturized. SOLUTION: The needle swinging device (10) for the sewing machine is provided with a needle bar swinging stand (60) for vertically movably supporting a needle bar, a swinging means (70) for swinging the needle bar, a needle bar crank rod (20) circularly moving one end and linking the other end to the needle bar, a driving power transmitting means (50) for transmitting deriving power applied to the needle bar crank rod to the needle bar while permitting swinging of the needle bar, and first and second guiding means (30 and 40) for vertically guiding the other end of the needle bar crank rod at a position holding the rod between front and rear sides. Since the movement of the other end of the needle bar crank rod is guided from both the front and rear sides of the needle bar crank rod, the rotation or inclination of the needle bar crank rod is suppressed and the generation of vibration or noise during sewing operation can be suppressed.
