<p>A cylindrical composting drum (7) rotates within a frame (1). The drum has especially a series of wall segments (20) mounted on telescopic rods (16) allowing the segments to move between closed (Pg) and open (Po) positions. The telescopic rods have springs which maintain the segments either in the open or closed presentation, and are moved in the opposite direction by a jack (22). The jack system is fixed to the frame and does not move with the rotating drum. The lower segments are always maintained in closed presentation. The wall segments are made pref. of heat-insulating wood, maximising the rate of decomposition. In a preferred embodiment, the drum has a series of externally-mounted knife blades which can be inserted into the drum via slits.</p> |
