FIELD: well strainers designed for recovery of hydrocarbon fluids. SUBSTANCE: expandable well strainer has expandable carrying tube provided with slots. Installed coaxially to said tube are many filter sheets in the form of iris diaphragm so that expansion of tube results in reduction of gap between adjacent filter sheets. Filter sheets have slots oriented round carrying tube. Said sheets consist of elongated strips with staggered rows of slots in transverse direction with respect to longitudinal axis of each strip. Slots are located so that alternating rows are displaced to half of slot spacing in transverse direction. Slot length is larger than half of transverse spacing of slots and pattern of slots location is preserved along longitudinal edge of each strip. Each strip is fastened to expandable slotted carrying tube by fastening points uniformly spaced over tube and effected by means of spot welding, brazing, soldering, cementing, riveting or joining of strip with tube by screws. Fastening points are located in units between ends of slots of said carrying tube. Longitudinal axis of each strip, mainly, is parallel to carrying tube central axis, both, ahead of expansion of carrying tube and behind expansion. EFFECT: provision of well strainer containing combination of filter sheets nonbending and easily sliding with respect to one another and to carrying tube in the course of expansion of the latter. 7 cl, 8 dwg
