PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a igniting material capable of making it easy to ignite charcoal, coal or the like which is difficult to be ignited, capable of being used as a solid fuel in a room or the like, and harmless to the human body. SOLUTION: This igniting material comprises a carbonized product of a natural fibrous material, a combustible liquid organic compound, and a sugar binder. The natural fibrous material preferably comprises one kind or a mixture of two or more kinds of coconut husks, rice husks, millet husks, husks of the other grain, bamboo, mongrove, and the other natural tree. The combustible liquid organic compound preferably comprises one kind or a mixed solvent of two or more kinds of lower alcohols selected from methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, propyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, and tertiary butyl alcohol.
