PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive active material which reduces generation of gases in a lithium ion secondary battery and enhancing battery characteristics (cycle characteristics and heavy load characteristic) and thermal stability. SOLUTION: Generation of gases in the lithium ion secondary battery is reduced, and battery characteristics (the cycle characteristics and the high load characteristic) and thermal stability are enhanced, by using the positive active material represented by the general formula Liw Co1-x My Sz . (where M is at least one selected from among Mg and Ba; 0.95<=w<=1.05; 0<x<=0.10; 1<=y<=2.5; and 0<z<=0.015). |
