PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solidifying agent for a liquid material enabling the easy disposing treatment of liquid wastes such as aqueous paints, oily paints and washing solvents remaining after use easily even at home without causing problems of the environmental pollution by producing little amount of solidified materials, and to provide a treating method using the agent. SOLUTION: The solidifying agent for liquid materials contains a water- absorbing resin (A) and a filler (B) having an oil-absorbing capacity of >=50 ml/100 g. The water-absorbing resin (A) is a mixture of a water-absorbing resin having a water-absorbing capacity of 800-1,100 g/g and a water-absorbing resin having that of 300-700 g/g against deionized water. The solidifying agent is added to a liquid material, the mixture is homogeneously mixed and allowed to stand, and the formed solid is disposed. In the case of an oily liquid material, water is added together with the solidifying agent.
