PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device which is free from crosstalk, attains sharp display and is driven with low energy. SOLUTION: In the display element 18, a polymer solid electrolyte layer 5 containing substances for coloring of bismuth chloride, AgI and the like deposited, dissolved or discolored by electrochemical reduction or oxidation is disposed between a transparent pixel electrode 2 and a counter electrode 6. The at least part other than at least pixel parts 17 of the transparent pixel electrode 2 is covered with by insulation material 14b.
