摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having high discharge capacity, long charge/discharge cycle life time, and superior rate characteristics. SOLUTION: This negative electrode material, for the nonaqueous electrolyte battery, has a composition represented by general formula (1) and substantially is made of an amorphous phase, wherein, A is at least one kind of element selected from among Al, Si, and Ge; RE is at least one kind of element selected from among rare earth elements; T is at least one kind of element selected from among Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, and Mn; M is at least one kind of element selected from among Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, and W; A' is at least one kind of element selected from among Sn, Pb, Zn, P, and C; 5 atomic %<=a<=40 atomic %; 5 atomic %<=b<=40 atomic %; 0<=c<=10 atomic %; 0<=d<=20 atomic %; and 0<=x<=0.5.
