PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolation device which is extremely small in resistance to earthquake load, has no natural period, and is freely movable in any direction according to horizontal vibrations. SOLUTION: The base isolation device is constructed by mounting steel plates on a column base-side end and a foundation slab upper bed of a building, respectively, and pinching rubber balls between the steel plates, to thereby transmit a vertical force of a superstructure via the rubber balls to the foundation structure. According to the base isolation device, when an earthquake occurs, the rubber balls are rotated, and therefore transmission of earthquake load to the superstructure is interrupted. Further, the base isolation device is comprised of a trigger device between both the steel plates, which is formed such that a stopping device breaks off due to earthquake load, to thereby disengage the superstructure from the binding of the foundation structure.
