<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of manufacturing an optical waveguide durable for long-term usage. SOLUTION: In the method for manufacturing the optical waveguide, the optical waveguide for transmittance of UV rays is obtained by manufacturing a preform having a core part comprising quartz glass doped with fluorine and a clad part comprising quartz glass, and then drawing the optical waveguide from the preform. Further, in this method, after manufacturing the preform, the optical waveguide is drawn from the preform without drawing the preform using an oxyhydrogen burner and/or without flame polishing the preform. Thereby, the optical waveguide durable for long-term usage can be produced because the amount of OH group becoming one factor of the deterioration of the optical waveguide by the irradiation of ultraviolet rays is reduced.</p> |
