PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk having an emboss pattern wherein a good reproducing signal is obtained from the emboss pattern. SOLUTION: The magnetic disk having an emboss pattern where a magnetic film 6 is formed on a substrate 4 having a recessed and projected emboss pattern 2 disposed on a surface along the peripheral direction employs the following structure. (1) Magnetization 14 is applied to the magnetic film of a slope 12 between the upper surface 8 and the bottom surface 10 of the emboss pattern. (2) The direction of the magnetization of the magnetic film of the slope when the magnetic disk is seen from the side is substantially parallel to the film surface of the magnetic film. (3) There is a magnetization reversal area 16 in the magnetic film of the slope.
