PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the current consumption by making the operation of an internal circuit to the absolute minimum in a semiconductor memory of a clock synchronous type. SOLUTION: When it is discriminated that a command signal is valid, a first clock generating circuit generates a first internal clock signal synchronizing with an external clock signal. A command latch circuit takes in an internal command signal supplied through a command buffer synchronizing with the first internal clock signal. That is, the command latch circuit takes in only valid command signal. Therefore, operation frequency of the command latch circuit can be decreased more than conventional one, needless operation of an internal circuit caused by supply of a command signal can be prevented. Consequently, the current consumption in operation and during standby can be reduced.
