PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glaze composition for forming a glaze layer in which stain is hard to stuck to the surface and which has excellent removability of stain. SOLUTION: The composition contains glaze forming components having a composition so as to form a sintered compact consisting of, by weight, 55.0 to 67.0% SiO2 , 8.0 to 11.0% Al2 O3 , 2.0 to 8.0% SnO2 , optional bivalent metallic oxide of 15.0 to 21.0% and optional univalent metallic oxide of 4.0 to 6.0%. When a glaze layer is formed by burning the glaze composition, the satisfactory one in which stain is hard to stuck to the surface, and which has excellent removability of stain, and has satisfactory opacity as well, and in which the amount of foam to be generated is reduced can be formed.
