PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inputting functional settings by which a user easily accesses all functions by using only a ten-key keyboard or the ten- key board and a few hardkeys, and to provide an apparatus for the same. SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a plurality of functions of a copying machine are arranged in a tree shape, and the user inputs the functional settings by using the tree-like structure. The user presses a 'setting' key following '4', '2' and '1' key without using a touch panel, etc., when setting magnification of 115% from a default copy setting state. When the number of alternative candidates in each tree is ten or less, it is not necessary to carry out determinative operation for every tree, and a position in the tree can be specified by figures by using the ten-key keyboard. |
