PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water channel construction method capable of lowering a construction cost and shortening a construction period by constructing a double closing work by utilizing an existing quay and more increasing the strength of a structure by utilizing a pier so that the quay can properly resist a hydraulic pressure. SOLUTION: In his method for constructing a water channel on the side of water protected by the quay 10, closing steel sheet piles 21 are driven in the bottom of water on the front side of the quay 10, and the quay 10 is fixedly connected to the closing steel sheet piles 21 and a space therebetween is filled to form a double closing work part 20. With the double closing work part 20 resisting against the hydraulic pressure, a land side portion on the rear side of the quay is excavated to construct a box culvert part B, and then the double closing work part 20 is removed.
