Making a binder comprises: (a) dissolving a glassy, amorphous, particulate mineral in an aqueous solution to form a solution containing nucleated reprecipitated mineral particles; (b) stabilizing the solution to form a sol of the desired particle size; and optionally (c) adjusting the dry matter content of the sol.
