PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high performance chip type resistor and its manufacturing method which has a little variation of the resistance value on the whole and suppresses the variation of the resistance value low at mounting. SOLUTION: A chip-like resistor 1 and a pair of copper electrode pieces 2 of the same thickness as the resistor 1 and the resistor 1 is diffusion-bonded to the pieces 2. The manufacturing method comprises steps of rolling a resistor blank 10 for forming the resistor 1 sandwiched between pair of electrode blanks 20 for forming the electrode pieces 2 with a pressure exerted on the plane of product enough to diffusion bond both, cutting the bonded body into a chip of a specified size, and rolling it in the thickness direction of the product. The resistor 1 has notches 11 for adjusting its resistance value. An insulation cladding 5 is provided for covering the chip-like resistor, including the boundaries of the resistor 1 and the electrode pieces 2, and made of fluoro-resin to provide no wettability to solder and a material of a plating layer provided on the electrode pieces 2.
