PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission speed mediating method for surely conducting communication by detecting a transmission band, which can transmit data in an optical transmission line and deciding data transmission speed, by taking into consideration the transmission band of the optical transmission line, when data transmission speed between units is decided, and to provide optical communication equipment, in an optical transmission system for which a plurality of data transmission speeds are not regulated. SOLUTION: A transmission side unit 1 generates a pilot signal by a pilot signal generating part 14 and transmits the pilot signal to a reception side unit 2. In the reception side unit 2, a transmission speed correction part 24 detects the transmission band of an optical transmission line 3, based on the amplitude of the pilot signal and decides data transmission speed that the reception side unit 2 permits, by taking into consideration the transmission band of the optical transmission line 3. The control part 22 of the reception side unit 2 mediates data transmission speed with the control part 12 of the transmission side unit 1, based on the decided data transmission speed. |
