PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid containing gold fine particles capable of forming a transparent conductive layer having a low resistance such as a front plate of a display device of CRT or the like, and to provide a method for manufacturing the coating liquid containing gold fine particles in a short time and a stable manner. SOLUTION: Gold fine particle nuclei are formed by adding a sulfur compound having any one out of a mercapto group, a sulfide group and a disulfide group and a reducing agent to a solution containing chloroauric acid and/or its salt, or an alkali metal salt of auric acid. Into a dispersion of the gold fine particle nuclei, a solution of an alkali metal salt of auric acid and a reducing agent are charged to coat the gold fine powder nuclei with gold. Into the obtained gold fine particle dispersion, an organic solvent is charged to obtain a coating liquid containing gold fine particles. The coating liquid comprising gold fine particles contains 5 pts.wt. or less of a sulfur compound based on 100 pts.wt. of the gold fine particles in a mixed solvent of water in which gold fine particles having an average particle size of <=100 nm are dispersed, and the organic solvent.
