PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curable epoxy resin composition which excels in water repellency, ink repellency, and ink resistance and can give a cured film capable of coping with fine processing having high adhesion to a base material, and a method for modifying the surface of a base material which can selectively provide a desired site of the base material using the composition with a high quality level water repellant treatment having excellent durability with high precision. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin composition comprises (A) an alkylsiloxane- containing epoxy resin having specific two types of monomer units and two or more alkylsiloxane groups and cyclic aliphatic epoxy groups in the molecule, (B) a cationic polymerization catalyst, and (C) a polyfunctional epoxy compound having a molecular weight of >=300 and a static viscosity at 25 deg.C of >=1,000 cP. The method for modifying the surface of a base material, an inkjet recording head and the like are disclosed.
