The tool comprises a pair of pliers defining a cable passage between them. At least one cutting blade (3) is mounted on one of the two arms, to cut the cable when the tool is rotated about the cable. A further blade makes a longitudinal incision in the cable when the cable is gripped in the pliers. The tool for stripping a multi-layer electrical cable comprises a pair of pliers with two arms (1,1') linked together by a central pivot (X). The two arms define a passage between them in which a cable may be positioned axially. At least one cutting blade (3) is mounted on one of the two arms, to cut the cable when the tool is rotated about the cable. A further blade makes a longitudinal incision in the cable when the cable is gripped in the pliers. The cutting blade is mounted to move with respect to the arm on which it is supported, so that it is able to penetrate to at least two different depths. In an alternative configuration, there may be two cutting blades mounted on a pivoting support. In a first position the first blade is operational, whilst in a second position the second blade is operational.
