PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily assure the water side connection of a thermostat casing to engine blocks without additional hose connection. SOLUTION: The water cooling type internal combustion engine, specially designed for a motorcycle has a thermostat 35 arranged in a cooling water passage built in a cylinder and a cylinder head to switch from a small cooling circuit to a large circuit. The thermostat casing 34 is equipped with at least one tubular connection portion 38 or 40 for attaching the water side of the engine blocks 8 and 10. The engine blocks 8 and 10 have at least one water side receiving opening 58 or 60. The connection pipe pieces 46 and 48 equipped with the seal elements 54 and 56 are arranged between the tubular connection portions 38 and 40 provided in the casing and the opening 58 and 60 provided on the engine block 8 and 10.
