摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium which has strong resistance against thermal magnetic relaxation while maintaining medium noise characteristics in a low level and in which ultrahigh density magnetic recording is possible. SOLUTION: Magnetic particles prepared by condensation in a physical vapor phase are charged, to which a static electric field is applied to classify the particles by the particle size. Only the magnetic particles having <=10 nm particle size as desired are selected and arranged at an equal interval only in a single layer without aggregating on a nonmagnetic substrate. Then a nonmagnetic thin film functioning as an embedding medium and as an upper protective film for the magnetic particles is deposited thereon so as to form such a structure that the space among the magnetic particles and the upper layer are covered with the nonmagnetic medium. By these means, the obtained magnetic recording medium realizes extremely high recording density while decreasing the medium noise and suppressing the thermal magnetic relaxation.
