The grip bar (4) is hollow and made from plastic, with only the bar wall being made from solid plastic. The inside of one of the bar sections (16) in the bar partition region (12) defines a receiving region, whilst the outside of the other bar section (14) in the bar partition region defines an insertion region (26) for mating with the receiving region. The expander band (6) is releasably secured to the ends of the bar. The latter can be divided into two sections and has a mounting (8) at each end for engaging with fasteners (10) on the ends of the band.
