Curable epoxy resin compositions

Curable epoxy resin compositions comprise (A) an epoxy resin together with (B) an adduct of an epoxy resin and a polyamine, and (C1) a resol or a derivative thereof in which the methylol or substituted methylol groups are at least partially etherified or esterified, or a plasticized reaction product of the resol or derivative thereof with a hydroxy carboxylic acid or a glyceride of a hydroxy carboxylic acid and/or (C2) an esterification product of a polyhydric alcohol with (i) a resinic acid, or a mixture thereof with a fatty acid, and (ii) an adduct of an a ,b -unsaturated dicaroxylic acid or its anhydride with a resinic acid and/or a poly-olefinically unsaturated fatty acid having conjugated double bonds, the (C1) and/or (C2) components being not more than 40% by weight of the total weight of (A) and (B). Many components for the preparation of components C1 and C2 are specified. The epoxy resins are the reaction products of diphenols with epihalohydrins, dihalohydrins or diepoxides such as butadiene dioxide. In the preparation of component (B) the epoxy resin may have an epoxy equivalence less than 1 and is reacted with an aliphatic polyamine. The invention also comprises a hardening agent comprising a mixture of component (B) and components (C1) and/or (C2), and a composition curable by component (B) comprising a mixture of components (A) and (C2). Iron is the metal specified and it is also stated that wood, concrete and stone may be coated.
