Lift mufflers compatible with other equipment to be fitted within the limited space available in an engine room of a watercraft are disclosed. A first embodiment (26) comprises a housing (40), inlet baffle (52) and outlet baffle (54). The inlet and outlet baffles are positioned in the housing such that the inlet baffle communicates with the inlet (46) and the outlet baffle communicates with the outlet (48). The inlet defines a first internal port transverse to an axis (56) of the housing. The outlet baffle defines a second internal port transverse to the plane of the first internal port. A second embodiment (126) comprises a housing (140), baffle plate (158), and a plurality of lift tubes (204, 206, 208) extending through the plate.
