PURPOSE: A variable cooling fan apparatus for a radiator is provided to reduce the noise and improve the fuel efficiency by minimizing the size of a cooling fan in stopping vehicle of low temperature of the coolant or in a low speed driving, and prevent overheat of an engine by extending the size of the cooling fan in a high speed driving with high load in the engine. CONSTITUTION: A variable cooling fan apparatus(1) for a radiator comprises a center hub(2) fixed to a rotation shaft of a fan motor, a plurality of fixed fans(3) projected at the circumference of the hub, a variable fan(4) mounted to be inserted into an end of the fixed fan, a thermal expansion material(7) expanding and contracting according to the temperature change of air passing through the radiator and sealed in the space(5) formed to the end of the fixed fan to support the variable fan, and a return spring(8) drawing the variable fan in the fixed fan against the expansion force of the thermal expansion material.
