A heat insulating body from a heat insulating material, especially polystyrene, has at least one layer comprising a microporous thermal insulating material. An Independent claim is included for preparation of the polystyrene body by locating a support (3) made from a microporous thermal insulating material with the aid of distance pieces in a foaming mold into which is filled with the polystyrene body, foamed before or after locating the support (3), and removal of the heat insulating body from the mold.
