PURPOSE: A method for inserting and detecting a watermark into and from a binary document, and an apparatus thereof are provided to track an outflow path of a document and protect CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for inserting and detecting a watermark into and from a binary document includes a binary image converting device(110) converting a document created in a document creating program into a binary image, a line unit processing device(120) detecting only a line in which characters are written down from the binary document image, and a watermark inserting part(130) inserting the watermark by shifting the detected line left or right, or transforming the line to form a regular wave.
