The tire has gripping elements(9) which are moved in and out of the tire tread surface. Movement of the grippers is effected by pressure increase or decrease in two chambers(1,3) inside the tire. The chambers are separated by a semi-elastic, supporting breaker which also supports the grippers. The semi-elastic breaker layer may be removable from the tire interior in which case the tire interior below the tread has circumferential channels for receiving the side edges of the breaker layer. The side edges end in solid elastic rings that are connected by rods. Alternatively the supporting breaker layer is vulcanized onto the inside of the tire. Pressures inside the two chambers are non-proportional during filling or emptying. The outer chamber(3) is connected to a valve(11) on the rim bed by a vulcanized tube(8) and the inner chamber is connected directly to another valve(12) on the rim bed. The tire grippers are either thin plates or spikes attached to discs(10) mounted on the supporting breaker layer. The tread surface has slits(5) to allow movement of the grippers. Thick rubber rings(4) surrounding the grippers act as seals and are vulcanized or welded to the inner wall of the tread region. Slit rubber sheets(7) with overlapping parts are attached over the slits. Grippers maintain a specific distance from the inner wall of the tread. The distance remains small when the edges of the supporting breaker layer are attached to the inner wall below the tread and is greater when the edges are connected to the inside of the tire sidewalls.
