PURPOSE: A device for updating a software of a personal computer through a network and a method thereof are provided to update a software of the newest version by providing personal computer software including various kinds of device drivers and various kinds of application software mounted and being managed in a personal computer, and checking a software installing environment of the personal computer connected through a network without a professional knowledge. CONSTITUTION: A CPU(10) includes an arithmetic/logical computing unit(ALU,11), a register set(12) which stores data and a command temporarily, and a control unit(13) which controls an operation of a computer system(5). A memory device(14) includes a main memory(15) and an auxiliary memory(16). The memory device(14) stores a personal computer search software(18), an update software(19), and a plurality of personal computer software(20). A user registration module receives registration information from a user through a network, and stores the registration information in a user information database prepared in the auxiliary memory(16). A search software downloading module fetches the personal computer searching software(18) stored in the memory device(14) and downloads the software(18) in a personal computer. An automatically updating module or the personal computer searching software(18) stores search-objected items. A menu updating module constitutes a hierarchical menu for selecting at least one software wanted by the user for a search out of software stored in the memory device(14) as an HTML document, and supplies the document for the user of the personal computer through a network.
