MOTION PICTURE ENCRYPTION METHOD AND APPARATUS WITH VARIABLE SECURITY

A method of variable security encryption, comprising the steps of: receiving a digital signal; selecting a variable number of data units from the digital signal; encrypting the selected data units; and replacing the selected data units with the corresponding encrypted data units; in which the number of data units selected can be varied. The resulting encrypted digital signal can be decrypted by reversing the encryption process.
