The method uses a hand-held unit having a display (17) of a country and keys (10) used to access functions using a hierarchical menu structure. Different regions (18) can be selected with the aid of a control keys (10e,b). The other keys provide call up of weather and road travel data. Information can be relayed to and from via an infra red interface (14) coupled to a mobile phone network. Independent claims are included for : (1) a device for mobile display of information; and (2) use of the information providing method or device in a motor vehicle.
