PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling a temperature by using an encoder is provided to vary an amount of heating value of heat member in stepwise by controlling a switching block with a microcomputer in response to the output of a multi-stage encoder. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling a temperature by using an encoder includes a health mat incorporated therein a heat emitting member(H1) made of a heater or the like, a rotary type temperature control encoder(E1) provided with a plurality of contact points for controlling the temperature of the heat emitting member(H1), a first and a second temperature sensors(S1,S2) for detecting the temperature of the heat emitting member(H1), a microcomputer for outputting a control signal to control the amount of heating value of the heat emitting member(H1) in response to the setting temperature of the heat emitting member(H1) set by the rotary type temperature control encoder(E1) and the detected temperature of the heat emitting member(H1) through the first and the second temperature sensors(S1,S2) and a switching block(20) for adjusting the amount of heating value by controlling the power applied to the heat emitting member(H1) in response to the microcomputer.
