An optical component for finely adjusting an optical characteristic of an optical waveguide diffraction grating device. The optical component has a flexible member to which an optical waveguide diffraction grating device is fixed in a predetermined position and bending means for bending the flexible member so as to impart a stress to the waveguide diffraction grating device. The optical component adjusts the stress applied to the optical waveguide diffraction grating device by means of the bending means so as to vary an optical characteristic of the optical waveguide diffraction grating device, thereby reading realizing various functions of optical multiplexing, optical demultiplexing, path change, adjustment of dispersion characteristic.
