Apparatus (1) for artificial respiration feeds perfluorocarbon into the patient's (4) lungs and has an aerosol generator (3) and a hose system for inhalation/exhalation, together with a hose (2) leading into the endotracheal tube. The aerosol generator is located at the hose system away from the patient or it can be in the endotracheal tube and can have a catheter. The aerosol spray can be generated by a jet mist, sputtering through centrifugal forces, condensation, evaporation, propellant gas, dispersion or ultrasonics.
