PURPOSE: Tongs having a slab bending detector are provided to prevent accidents from fall of a slab in gripping the slab wrong and breakage of equipments by displaying the bending direction and the bending clearance of a gripping slab in placing a supporting block on the slab. CONSTITUTION: Tongs transports a slab by gripping both sides of the slab with a tongs arm including a tongs protrusion, sets the number of slabs with placing on the slab, and has a supporting block(5) lifting up and down in rotating a screw. A slab bending detecting device has a holder part lifting up and down with the supporting block, an operating unit moving up and down the holder part, a detecting unit detecting bending of the slab according to electric resistance, and a PLC unit controlling calculation by receiving information and displaying. Breakage and accidents are prevented by detecting bending direction and clearance of the slab.
