PURPOSE: A converter operating method using a converter slag stopper is provide to prevent the emission of flame during and the deterioration of peripheral installations, and to maintain a clean work environment. CONSTITUTION: The converter operating method using a slag stopper comprises the steps of; closing an outlet port(5) with the slag stopper by detecting the opening of an oxygen valve; purging the outlet port by supplying inert gas from an automatic valve(22) at a constant pressure; making the slag stopper open automatically when the oxygen valve is closed; and intercepting the supply of the inert gas by closing the automatic valve.
