PURPOSE: A method for controlling a data rate in a reverse link is provided to use total interference amounts of the reverse link, channel circumstances of each terminal, and a presently-transmitted data rate, thereby increasing a throughout. CONSTITUTION: A base station(10) transmits a pilot signal to a terminal(20)(S10). The base station(10) calculates total interference amounts of a reverse link through more than one terminal receiving signal within a cell range of the base station(10)(S20). The base station(10) updates a data rate controlling threshold value by using the total interference amounts(S30). The base station(10) calculates a receiving pilot strength and a rate state value corresponding to a reverse data rate(S50). The base station(10) compares the rate state value with the data rate controlling threshold value, and generates an RA(Reverse Activity) of each terminal(S60). The base station(10) transmits the RA to each terminal through an RA channel(S70). The terminals control a data rate of the next frame without a self test(S80).
