BSTP-5 PROTEINS AND RELATED REAGENTS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

The invention provides polypeptides (BSTP-5.1 and BSTP-5.2 and a polypeptide encompassing both of these polypeptides) and polynucleotides which identify and encode these polypeptides. The invention also provides expression vectors, host cells, antibodies, agonists, and antagonists. In addition, the invention provides methods for treating or preventing disorders of cell proliferation, particularly breast cancer, by administering a pharmaceutical composition comprising a polypeptide, polynucleotide, or antibody of the invention. The invention also provides methods of classifying diseases, particularly breast cancer, by detecting expression of the BSTP-5 polypeptides or of a polynucleotide encoding BSTP-5 polypeptide(s), and methods of providing diagnostic, prognostic, and/or predictive information for a patient based on the detection and/or measurement of BSTP-5 polypeptide(s) or of a gene that encodes the polypeptide(s) or of a mutation in the BST-5 gene.
