Generating nucleation centers (NC) for selectively heterogeneous growth of metal clusters (MC) on DNA molecules comprises incubating a DNA solution with a metal salt solution, then the combined solution, containing metal complex/DNA adducts and dissolved metal complexes, is reduced. An Independent claim is also included for methods of (sequence-specific) metallization of DNA.
