PURPOSE: A transmission control system of an automatic transmission by using CAN(Control Area Network) communication and a method thereof are provided to remove the shock and noise due to the crushing of gears by preventing the power state change due to the speed change control before stoppage, to satisfy the study condition of a combining side, and to remove the engine brake feeling. CONSTITUTION: A traveling state sensing unit(10) senses the speed change signal from the third speed to the second speed or from the fourth speed to the third speed before the stoppage of automatic speed change and outputs the signal. A transmission control unit(20) senses the speed change state from the third speed to the second speed or from the fourth speed to the third speed before stoppage by receiving the signal outputted from the traveling state sensing unit, generates a control signal for avoiding the change of the power state, and outputs the control signal by using the CAN communication. An engine control unit(40) controls the "ON" and "OFF" states of power of the engine by receiving the control signal outputted from the transmission control unit.
