<p>Preparation of block polymers by thermal radical polymerization using a specified initiator. In the first stage a thermal radical polymerization of one or more monomers M1 is conducted with an initiator of formula X-A-Y (I) to obtain a polymer of formula X-D-(or Y-E-)PM1-T (II); X, Y = a monofunctional group reactive and reactivatable in living radical polymerization; A = a divalent group comprising a bond capable in radical polymerization of dividing to generate free radicals X-D asterisk and asterisk E-Y; D, E = fragments resulting from the division of A; T = a terminal group X-D- or Y-E- formed by recombination and/or a terminal group comprising an unsaturated bond and a saturated bond which is formed by dismutation; T is totally or essentially of the second type when M1 is a methacrylic monomer. In the second stage, living radical polymerization of polymer (II) is conducted, leading to the insertion between X and D and Y and E of a polymer sequence PM2 of at least one monomer M2. This living copolymer can be then be used as a macroinitiator in the living radical polymerization one or more monomers M3. The living radical polymerization is by photochemical activation in the presence of free radicals. Independent claims are included for: (1) block copolymers obtained by the method; and (2) a compound of formula X-L1-A'-L2-Y (V), more specifically of formula (VI); L1, L2 = a divalent linking group.</p> |
