<p>This invention relates to an energy absorption system (1) comprising at least two connecting elements (2) arranged in a motor vehicle (20). The connecting elements (2) are mutually connected by bridge elements (3) propagating substantially in an intended deformation direction of the energy absorption system (1). The energy absorption system (1) comprises a retaining element (4) arranged substantially perpendicular to said bridge elements (3). When the energy absorption system (1) is subject to a force impact in the intended deformation direction, said retaining element (4) is releasable at a given level of force impact, causing a controlled deformation of said energy absorption system.
