Fluid pressure to the respective pairs of brake lines 14, 16 or 18, 20 of a motor vehicle is cut-off in the event of line breakage in one or the other of these pairs, by a valve device comprising a housing having a common pressure inlet 28 from a master cylinder 30 and two outlet passages 40, 70 controlled by a doubleended valve member 78 which is movable in a chamber 26 by rush of fluid in the event of line breakage to close one or the other of the two outlets leading to the wheel brake cylinders. The valve member is loosely held between opposed springs 92 so that the outlets are normally open, and has two collars 80, 82 past which the flows to the outlets occur. Each end of the valve member has an enlarged head, as shown, with a depression 86 surrounded by a closure surface which engages a seat 90. The front and rear outlet passages are connected through a manually-actuated shut-off valve 46 so that the pressures can be equalized to reestablish the normal open position.</p> |
